USB-host & charging-cable in 1

I'm disappointed how few flame specific accessories are offered on the market(except those universal things like usb chargers an mini usb synccables)...

Since i have switched from the FS N560 to my flame i was used to hook up my 8gb usb thumbdrive packed with movies an watch them on my pda
the good thing about that was that i was able to charge my device while watching a movie so i woludn't end up with a totaly drained battery at the end of a movie

it becomes even more important with the flame because:
- when my battery gets drained by watching a movie i cannot use my phone -.-
- the flame allows to be hooked up to a tv set to watch movies(already successfully tested with full length movies smile which drains even more batteries (anybody knows hov to switch off the screen so that less battery power gets drained, i mean the output on the flame screen isnt needed while being hooked up to a tv set, i've already tried to assign a screen toggle shortcut with spb+ but when i turn off the screen on my flame i noticed that it actually causes the flame to rum at 100% cpu load an drain the battery even faster, besides the movie displayed on the external screen starts to stutter because of this... )

so yes I am looking for a way to plug in a usb device to my flame AND to charge the battery simultaneously like in my N560

it would be even helpful when somebody could confirm that the mini usb port on the flame would or wouldn't support such a thing
and if yes then i would like to know if i missed such a adapter/splitter cable or maybe someone has the needed pinouts/diagram to do this on my own...
i can imagine that in comparison to the sync port on the n560 the mini usb port may not be able to supply power to a usb device AND accept a charge hmm
maybe it would siffice to build a cable whic supplies the power in one direction(charging the flame AND powering the external usb device)

greetings from a new flame user smile

Re: USB-host & charging-cable in 1

I've been cutting alot of wires lately, to try and fire up my Himalaya from it's dead state. Sadly, it's still dead. If I can find a few other electronic components, I might just try to wire up my Flame with this project. I'm sure it's possible big_smile

I've wired up a 3.5" HDD + Adapter to my Flame before, using a 1 miniUSB <---> 2 USB port wire design. one (power[??in or out??i'm not sure??] + data) for the flame, one (power[surely in, can't be out xD] + data) for the HDD, and the last USB for power. Only if I plugged in all three cables will I be able to fire up my HDD. I'll keep updating within this week. big_smile

Re: USB-host & charging-cable in 1

It is not possible.
USB OTG (on the go):
Without charge is USB host.
With charge only can be slave.
I am looking for charge battery trought battery connectors.

Re: USB-host & charging-cable in 1

If you're planning to charge the battery through the battery connectors, i must seriously WARN you that it MIGHT render your flame unable to be used. I now have a phobia of hardwiring the contact points, cause my Himalaya(O2 XDA II) went dead when I accidentally shocked it under-voltage (4.2V). It's rendered to be permanently dead till as of now. Be careful yeah? I will still test the OTG + charge thingy. I hope I can think of something soon.

Re: USB-host & charging-cable in 1

i always tought of using my usb hdd with flame and a way to charge flame while providing usb power to the hdd itself also. My hdd keep disconnecting every now and then (prob low power from flame). Can someone identify flame usb pin and post a schematic so we can build our own usb host cable.

Re: USB-host & charging-cable in 1

I tried using USB external hdd with Y cable. Connect the hdd, flame and usb battery pack (sanyo) to proper plug. It will not charge while using the hdd, in other words it only charge during standby. I tried to power using usb ac adaptor and from pc, same thing happen. There could be a registry fix to this or maybe its just hardwired to do so? Anyone has any experence with other device with USBOTG?
